The company’s business consists of three operating segments: Commercial Banking; Global Wholesale Banking; and Asset Management and Insurance.

COMMERCIAL BANKING

The Commercial Banking segment’s activities include products and services for retail customers, enterprises and corporations and its consumer finance business.

The company focuses on customer relationships, extending credit, services and products to individuals and corporations (other than global corporate customers who are served by its Global Wholesale Banking segment) through personal loans (including real estate and automobile financing, unsecured consumer financing, checking account overdraft loans, credit cards and payroll loans), leasing, commercial loans, working capital lines, and foreign trade financing. The company’s product offering extends to private retirement plans, insurance, bill collection, and processing services. Its Commercial Banking operations also include private banking typically for individuals.

The company’s customers are serviced throughout Brazil primarily through its branch network, which, at December 31, 2009, consisted of 2,091 branches, 1,502 on-site service units located at its corporate customers’ premises, and 18,094 ATMs, as well as its Internet banking platform and its call center operations.

Retail Banking

The company’s retail banking customer base includes individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Its focus is on high- and mid-income customers. As of December 31, 2009, its retail banking operations had approximately 22.3 million customers, consisting of approximately 21.3 million individuals and 1.0 million SMEs; and had approximately 10.2 million account holders.

The range of products and services the company offers to its retail customers includes accounts, saving accounts and time deposits; loans to individual customers, including consumer finance, personal loans and payroll loans; credit cards; loans to SMEs; agricultural loans; mortgages; leasing; insurance and asset management products; private retirement plans; and cash management services for SMEs. In its retail banking business, the company provides a range of products and services and centralizes banking transactions of its customers.

Deposit-Taking Activity: The company offers its customers various deposit products, such as accounts (also referred to as demand deposits), which do not bear interest; traditional savings accounts; and time deposits. In addition, the company accepts deposits from financial institutions as part of its treasury operations, which are represented by certificates of interbank deposit (CDIs) and which earn the interbank deposit rate.

Retail Lending: The company offers its retail lending products to customers through its branch network and on-site service units. It divides its customers into separate categories based principally on their monthly income (for individuals) and annual gross revenues (for businesses). The company makes credit available to its customers through the various loan products, including personal loans; payroll loans; credit cards; account overdraft loans; consumer finance; and mortgages.

Corporate Lending (for Customers Served by its Commercial Banking Segment)

The company offers a range of credit products to its corporate customers, including general corporate and working capital financing, lease financing and foreign trade financing, as well as deposit-taking and other services. As of December 31, 2009, the company had approximately 1.0 million SME customers and approximately 4,700 enterprise customers.
