Axis Bank Limited provides retail and corporate banking products and services in India. As of November 18, 2009, the bank operated 836 branches, as well as a network of approximately 3,595 ATMs. It has branches in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai.

Segments

On October 18, 2009, Axis Bank Limited announced reorganisation of its operations into four strategic business units, including Retail banking, SME, Agri, and Corporate banking. The corporate banking unit would own large corporate, mid-corporate, infrastructure, capital markets, treasury and international businesses.

Treasury

Treasury operations include investments in sovereign and corporate debt, equity and mutual funds, trading operations, derivative trading and foreign exchange operations on the proprietary account and for customers and central funding.

Retail Banking

Constitutes lending to individuals/small businesses subject to the orientation, product and granularity criterion and also includes low value individual exposures. Retail Banking activities also include liability products, card services, Internet banking, ATM services, depository, financial advisory services and NRI services.

Corporate / Wholesale Banking

Includes corporate relationships not included under Retail Banking, corporate advisory services, placements and syndication, management of public issue, project appraisals, capital market related services and cash management services.

CORPORATE BANKING

Corporate banking business provides various products and services to large and mid-size corporates that include credit, trade finance for domestic, as well as international transactions, structured finance, project finance and syndication services through separate SBUs, such as large and mid-corporate credit, treasury, business banking and capital markets.

The Bank's Capital Markets Business also involves providing corporate restructuring advisory services, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory services, arranging services for acquisition funding, infrastructure and project advisory services, techno-economic feasibility reports, business plan preparation and bid process management. The Bank also maintains an investment and proprietary trading portfolio in corporate bonds and equities.

Significant Events

In November 2009, Experian plc has created a joint venture with AXIS Bank Limited; Federal Bank Ltd.; Indian Bank; Magma Fincorp Ltd; Punjab National Bank; Sundaram Finance Ltd.; and Union Bank of India, with Experian owning 49% of the venture.

History

Axis Bank Limited was founded in 1993. The Bank was formerly known as UTI Bank Limited and changed its name to Axis Bank Limited in 2007.
