Hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) batteries are rechargeable batteries used in the power systems of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). They are typically lithium-ion batteries, primarily providing the energy needed for pure electric driving, acceleration, regenerative braking, and engine-assisted drive. Compared to conventional PHEV batteries, PHEV batteries have larger capacities and can be charged via external charging stations or household power, supporting a certain range of pure electric driving. Compared to pure electric vehicle (EV) batteries, their capacity is usually smaller, but they need to balance high power output, frequent charge/discharge cycles, cycle life, safety, low-temperature performance, and overall vehicle energy management efficiency. These batteries widely employ technologies such as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and ternary lithium batteries, and are crucial components for reducing fuel consumption, emissions, improving driving performance, and facilitating the transition from gasoline vehicles to pure electric vehicles. Global shipments are projected to reach 183.5 GWh by 2025.

The global hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) battery market is experiencing rapid growth. As the new energy vehicle industry evolves from a single pure electric route to a multi-technology parallel development, HEVs, with their advantages of flexible charging, lower range anxiety, lower overall fuel consumption, and strong adaptability to various usage scenarios, are maintaining rapid growth in China, Europe, and some emerging markets. In terms of the industry chain, hybrid vehicle batteries are highly related to positive and negative electrode materials, electrolytes, separators, copper foil, aluminum foil, cell manufacturing, battery pack integration, BMS, thermal management systems, and vehicle energy management strategies. Because plug-in hybrid vehicles require efficient collaboration between the engine, motor, battery, and electronic control system, battery suppliers not only need to provide stable and reliable cells and battery packs, but also need to have the capability for joint development with vehicle platforms, system adaptation, and safety verification.
