Active Battery Balancing IC is a type of balancing control chip used in battery management system. Its main function is to realize energy transfer among cells in a series-connected battery pack, so that the voltage, state of charge and available capacity of different cells can remain as consistent as possible. Unlike passive balancing, which dissipates excess energy from high-charge cells through resistors, Active Battery Balancing IC usually uses circuit structures such as inductor, transformer, switched capacitor and bidirectional DC-DC converter to transfer energy from high-charge cells to low-charge cells, or to exchange energy between cells and the battery pack, thereby reducing heat loss, improving balancing efficiency and shortening balancing time.

The upstream of Active Battery Balancing IC mainly includes wafer manufacturing, analog and power management IC process, power MOSFET, driver, packaging material, lead frame, bonding wire, substrate, as well as peripheral component such as inductor, transformer, capacitor and resistor. Among them, high-efficiency bidirectional energy conversion, low-power detection, high-reliability packaging and protection circuit design directly affect chip performance. The midstream consists of Active Battery Balancing IC design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, and BMS solution integration companies. The downstream is mainly used in terminal scenarios requiring multi-cell battery management, such as new energy vehicle, energy storage power station, consumer electronics, industrial and medical equipment.
