Commercial vehicle dry clutch friction facings are annular friction materials mounted on both sides of a clutch driven disc and operated in air rather than transmission oil. They transmit and interrupt engine torque between the flywheel, pressure plate and transmission input shaft, while supporting smooth launch, gear shifting and torsional-vibration control. Key upstream inputs include glass fibre, aramid fibre, mineral fibre, copper or steel wire, phenolic resin, synthetic rubber, graphite, friction modifiers and functional fillers. Heavy-duty or specialty products may also use copper-based, iron-based or bronze-based sintered-metal systems. Downstream applications are primarily manual transmissions, automated manual transmissions and hybrid-commercial-vehicle torque dampers used in light commercial vehicles, medium trucks, heavy-duty trucks, tractor units, buses and specialty road vehicles. Compared with passenger-car products, commercial-vehicle facings require higher torque capacity, stronger fade resistance, longer wear life and greater mechanical strength.
