Their composition is centered on the active ingredient, with solvents, emulsifiers, carriers, stabilizers, or feeding attractant matrices added when required. Their mode of action is not rapid neurotoxic knockdown, but endocrine interference, especially by disrupting juvenile hormone production in organs such as the corpora allata, thereby lowering the hormone level required for larvae or nymphs to maintain juvenile status, molt normally, metamorphose, and reproduce. These products belong to a specific mechanism class within insect growth regulators and are used in agricultural and horticultural pest control, public-health vector management, stored-product and structural pest control, livestock, aquaculture, and sericulture regulation, as well as insect endocrine research and lead screening for new pesticides.
