World Demand for ABS Expanded by 4.5% in 2009

29 Jan 2010 • by Natalie Aster

World demand for acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) expanded by 4,5% in 2009 although the demand was considerably affected by output reductions in the automotive industry, as per MarketPublishers.com. With construction and automotive industries recovery, ABS demand is expected to further grow in 2010. When most markets for ABS are mature, it continues to find new applications. The market has become a general-purpose sector, where cost and productivity are the most important factors, and an engineering plastics sector is driving most of the industry's growth. ABS combines the resilience of polybutadiene with the hardness and rigidity of polyacrylonitrile and polystyrene. It is the largest-volume engineering thermoplastic resin.
