Rhodia Starts Glycerin-Based Solvent Production
18 Nov 2010 • by Natalie Aster
French chemical firm Rhodia has started manufacturing its Augeo solvent range based on a byproduct of biodiesel production, glycerin, in Brazil.
Developed by the firm over three years, the solvent replaces glycol ethers and acetates that have a petrochemical base, according to Business News Americas.
The solvent will be used in paints and varnishes across industries including automotive, painting and refinishing.
The Augeo project will be implemented in Europe in 2010, followed by Asia and North America.
