World production is dominated by Chile. Two of the leading iodine companies in the world are located in Chile. Japan is the second leading producer; its output is associated with gas brines.

Most of the iodine producers were operating close to nominal capacity. Iodine prices may increase slightly because of increased demand worldwide.

The water treatment market is expected to increase with more growth anticipated in Asian areas such as China, India and Pakistan.
