A Flare in Nova Corunna’s Olefin Unit Caused by a Steam Pressure Loss

24 Jun 2009 • by Natalie Aster

A huge flaring has occurred at Nova Chemical’s Corunna site. The flare was caused by a steam pressure loss in Nova Corunna’s olefin unit. Loss of pressure coerced the company to take a compressor down, resulting in high flaring, black smoke and a lot of noise. After about three hours, the olefin unit was taken offline and the flaring and the noise were significantly reduced. An investigation is on to determine why steam pressure was lost.
