14 Jun 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – The premium segment of the beauty and personal care marketplace continues to dominate the scene, showing high growth if compared to the mass segment. This growth is encouraged by such discretionary categories as skin care, fragrances and color cosmetics.

As a result, this market is worth approximately USD 100 billion, and North America was a major region dominating this growth. Some major trends in this marketplace comprise: personalization, uniqueness of proposition and authenticity.

In 2015, premium skin care was an outperformer in Western Europe and North America if compared to the mass segment. In APAC, however, the most rapid growth took place in the mass skin care directory. In the meantime, a slip in the mass fragrances continued in North America.

Globally, growth of the skin care segment was a little slower in 2015. The demand for such products was robust in the same years, showing 4.6% growth YoY.

Thailand broke in the list of the world’s top ten markets for skin care. This marketplace grew at an 8% CAGR over the period 2010-2015. In 2015, it was worth USD 2 billion.

The fragrances segment grew at a 6.2% CAGR in 2015, with and it mainly came from the premium scent directory.
