Argentina Telecom & Pay-TV Sector Revenue Stood at USD 13.3 billion in 2015, Says Pyramid Research in Its Report Available at MarketPublishers.com

12 May 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – The revenue generated by the vendors in the Argentinean telecom and pay-TV industry stood at USD 13.3 billion as of 2015, up 2.9% YoY, a slight expansion given the country's inflation in the double-digit range. The revenue generated by the mobile voice and data service segments together accounted for 54.5% of the total, with the pay-TV segment following after grabbing 18.7% of the overall service revenue. With a strong devaluation for Argentina’s peso projected for 2016, the majority of the telecom segments are set to see revenue decreases going forward.

Incumbent telecom operators Telecom Argentina/Personal and Telefónica/Movistar accounted for close to 53% of the overall telecom and pay-TV service revenue as of 2015. Their combined share has been decreasing by progressive stages recently, mostly due to the growing competition from cable television provider Cablevisión Fibertel.

Broadband penetration was estimated at 18.4% in 2015, several percentage points above the Latin American average of 11.6%. Moving forward, fixed broadband penetration is set to keep on growing to reach 25% by 2020-end, underpinned by higher service adoption levels amid residential clients and the deployment of a public owned fiber-optic backbone network targeted to enhancing connectivity on underserved territories.
