Indian Power Transmission & Distribution Market Evaluated by Infra Insights in Topical Report Published at MarketPublishers.com

03 Mar 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – Poor power evacuation infrastructure has been the major factor limiting the growth of the Indian overall power industry. Over the years, power generation capacity additions remained the overriding priority, which resulted in huge gaps between power that could be generated and power that could be evacuated and delivered to the last mile energy consumer. Furthermore, the transmission of power from power surplus East India to the power deficit southern states has also been limited. In the State of Tamil Nadu, dearth of adequate power evacuation infrastructure has made wind turbines back down, as a result of which full potential of installed wind energy capacities in the state remains untapped. The increase in renewable energy capacity installations in practically every Indian state will likely put enormous stress on the current transmission infrastructure and entail heavy investments in setting up novel transmission projects that are resilient to accommodate these unforeseen power generation sources. Around 7 MA of power evacuation capacity is needed for every 1 MW of power generation, translating to the need for about 1923 GVA for existing installed capacity of 275 GW, though, the overall power evacuation infrastructure currently stands at close to 1100 GVA, meaning the gap of around 823 GVA. Considerable upgradation of current substations is likely to be performed to fill this gap and additional 700 GVA novel capacity will likely be added to accommodate 100 GW of novel electricity generation capacities projected to be commissioned in the next 5 years.

Topical report “Emerging Business Opportunities in Power Transmission & Distribution sector in India by 2020” elaborated by Infra Insights presents qualitative and quantitative insights into the emerging business opportunity in India’s power transmission and distribution marketplace.

The study throws light on the key trends in the power transmission sector in India, covering existing evacuation infrastructure, growth in transmission sector, issues and challenges faced by the industry. It gives information on planned, announced and forthcoming new transmission and substation upgradation projects in the country; uncovers the opportunities in the operations and maintenance of transmission networks; includes an assessment of the demand for electrical equipment & components from transmission and generation projects switchyard equipment; limelights the trends prevailing in the national power distribution sector; programmes announced by government to fortify the sector. The individual market analyses are provided for transformers, switchgears and energy meters, with cover market sizing, technology landscape, applications and usage, competitive scenario, etc. The report also speculates on the growth prospects of the national transmission and distribution electrical equipment market to 2020.  An overview of the procurement & contracting practices in еру transmission industry is provided, and the demand for different network operations technology is analysed in the report.
