Spain Telecom and Pay-TV Services Market Reviewed in New Pyramid Research Report Published at MarketPublishers.com

12 Feb 2015 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – Following a period of revenue losses starting from 2009 to 2017, Spain’s telecom services sector is expected to gain traction and generate USD 26.2 billion in total revenue in 2019, with broadband Internet and mobile data acting as the major growth drivers.

In 2014, the country’s telecom market is consolidated and dominated by such three big players as Movistar, Orange Spain and Vodafone Spain, which offer a wide scope of broadband, fixed, pay-TV and mobile services. The market shares of these operators accounted for 80% of total service revenue in 2014 (including Jazz Telecom (Jazztel) and ONO). Having acquired ONO in 2014, Vodafone is striving to compete against Movistar. Meantime, in the same year, Orange confirmed a bid to purchase Jazztel, with the merger expected to be finalised in spring 2015.  Following these strategic positionings, operators' shares are set to change by 2019, with Movistar losing its dominance in the Spanish telecom market space.

A hike in multiplay packages together with the rising smartphone and tablet PC penetration will likely be the key factors driving FTTH/B and LTE network expansions. FTTH/B subscriptions will likely reach 10 million by end-2019 and LTE subscriptions to 50.8 million.

New cutting-edge report “Spain: LTE and Fiber Deployment to Drive Growth as Market Consolidates” developed by Pyramid Research offers a forward-looking, comprehensive analysis of Spain's telecom and pay-TV markets and major near-term opportunities for the players involved. The report analyses the assumptions and drivers lying behind on-going and forthcoming trends in the country’s mobile communications, fixed line telephony/VoIP, pay-TV and broadband markets, including the evolution of the service providers’ market shares. It examines the current and emerging trends in the marketplace, regulatory issues, offers an analysis alongside historical data and forecasts of service revenue generated from the various market segments, surveys the competitive scene and discusses the top service providers including their performance, revenue market shares and prospective moves in the offing.
