The Indian Food Service Industry is thriving. Higher levels of disposable income among consumers have led to more adventurous tastes and a greater appetite for eating out in many areas of India.
The Indian Food Service industry has gone through many changes over the last few years. More extensive menus and a broader portfolio of outlet brands have been introduced to provide more choice to the Indian consumer.
According to the report “QSR Industry in India (2011-15))” by IS Advisors, the organized segment of the food service industry stands at merely 20% of the total industry. The fastest growing segment in the organized segment of the industry is the Quick Service Restaurants segment (QSR’s).

A fast food restaurant, also known as a Quick Service Restaurant or QSR is characterized both by its fast food cuisine and by minimal table service. Food served in fast food restaurants is offered from a limited menu; is cooked in bulk in advance and kept hot; is finished and packaged to order; and is usually available ready to take away, though seating may be provided. Presently, QSR business is growing at a fast pace in India. The industry which makes up 42% of the organized food services market.
