Ethyl difluoroacetate (ethyl 2,2-difluoroacetate) is a fine chemical product with the molecular formula C4H6F2O2. It is a colorless transparent liquid with a sweet odour; insoluble in water and boiling at 97 °C.

Ethyl difluoroacetate is mainly used as agrochemicals intermediate or pharmaceuticals intermediate to produce agrochemicals & animal nutrition, health, personal and home care products.

Among other patented uses of this product is the preparation of microspheres. According to the invention, a drug-containing polymer microsphere may be prepared quickly and simply without the solvent evaporation or solvent extraction process, thereby reducing water consumption and minimizing wastewater generation.

Ethyl difluoroacetate is also used in preparing pyrrazolo-pyrimidine derivatives. For instance, 7-difluoromethyl-5-(4-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3 carboxylic acid is made from a stirred solution of ethyl difluoroacetate in tert-butyl-methyl-ether with a solution of sodium methanolate in methanol and a solution of commercially available 4-trifluoromethyl-acetophenone in tert-butyl-methyl-ether.

No component of ethyl difluoroacetate present at levels greater than or equal to 0.1% is identified as probable, possible or confirmed human carcinogen by IARC.
