Magnesium Chloride (CAS 7786-30-3) Market is Dominated by China

10 May 2012 • by Natalie Aster

Magnesium chloride (magnesium dichloride) officially refers only to the salt compound MgCl2; although in common usage the term "magnesium chloride" also applies to the hydrates of magnesium chloride MgCl2(H2O)x. Magnesium chloride as the natural mineral bischofite is mined from sea beds, and hydrated magnesium chloride is extracted from brine or sea water.

Besides being the principle precursor to magnesium metal, magnesium chloride is used for lots of other applications. Thus, it is required for the production of cement, textiles, paper, fireproofing agents, refrigeration brine. Magnesium chloride is a dust suppressant and road stabilizer on non-paved roads and a deicing product on paved roads and sidewalks. Magnesium chloride has also shown promise as a storage material for hydrogen gas. Used along with magnesium sulphate, it coagulates soy milk, from which tofu is made.

Magnesium chloride is also used in several medical and skin related applications. It is used in pills as supplemental sources of magnesium. It can also be used as an effective anaesthetic for cephalopods, some species of crustaceans, and several species of bivalve, including oysters.

In the late 1910s, French surgeon Dr. Pierre Delbet discovered that magnesium chloride actually stimulates leucocytes and fagocytes which are essential for the cleaning up and healing of infectious tissue. Later he discovered the use of magnesium chloride in many internal, chronic diseases.

The global magnesium chloride market is led by China which produces and consumes about 60% of all magnesium chloride. The largest merchant end uses for magnesium chloride in the Western world are for dust control and deicing, whereas Asia, and China in particular, consume by far the largest part of all magnesium chloride for the production of Sorel cement.

Magnesium chloride market is covered in the study Magnesium Chloride (CAS 7786-30-3) Market Research Report 2012. The report encompasses proper description of the product, unveils application areas, and briefly summarizes patents in the sphere. It overlooks magnesium chloride market situation, names manufacturers, suppliers as well as users. The report also provides current magnesium chloride prices in the market.
