Kurita Water Industries Ltd. Confirmed FY 2012 Outlook According to BAC Company Report

LONDON – Kurita suffered minor loss due to the earthquake and tsunami. Some deliveries were cancelled by customers in the Water Treatment Chemicals business, but Kurita assisted its consumers in recovery activities, as well as delivered drinkable water in aggrieved regions.

In one of its press releases of 2011 Kurita published its estimations of results for the financial year ending March 2012. The outlook considered the earthquake impact on company’s business, and stated the following:

  • 192,000 million yen net sales
  • 29,000 million yen operating income,
  • 29,500 million yen ordinary income
  • 17,400 million yen net income
  • Mild recovery overseas, led by firm economic expansion in emerging countries, particularly China
  • Restricted production activities In Japan due to electric power and parts shortages

This means 5.9% increase in revenues, 6.9% growth in operating income, and 1.5% increase in net income from the results of FY 2011. The result was revised at the last board meeting, and company’s management considered it correct. Therefore Kurita will deliver solid performance in FY 2012 despite difficulties striking Japanese economy.

Company’s financial performance in the last quarter was affected by cancelled orders and slowdown in business activities. Revenue equaled JPY 44 B, operating income fell to JPY 6.6 B, net income decreased to JPY 2.9 B, profit margin was 6.5%. Annual results of Kurita are idle and reflect dependence on world economy condition. Revenue in FY 2011 was JPY 181.2 B (up 1.5% YoY), gross profit added 2.2% and amounted to JPY 62.7 B, operating income declined by 2.9% to equal JPY 27.1 B, net income dropped to JPY 17.1 B (down 0.8%).

Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Tokyo (Japan), Kurita Water Industries engages in development and manufacture of water treatment industrial equipment and chemicals. The company has established a widespread distribution network for its products, and generates most revenues from pre-orders. It has representative offices in USA, Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, China. All of them cover the supplies for the whole region. Kurita is public and trades on First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange under the ticker 6370.
