Leading Vaccine Types by Revenue

By sales revenue, paediatric vaccines were the largest vaccine type in the twelve calendar months of 2010. Global sales of paediatric vaccines were valued at $4.68bn (Table 4.2), leading to a market share of 43.78% (Figure 4.1). Top sellers in this category included combination vaccines for childhood diseases. In 2010, Influenza and adult/other vaccines were the second and third-best-selling vaccine types, with recorded revenues of $1.75bn and $1.62bn (Table 4.2) respectively. Reported sales of prophylactic cancer vaccines were $1.19bn (11.13% market share). Merck’s Gardasil vaccine for cervical cancer and genital herpes dominated this vaccine class. Hepatitis vaccines had revenues of $1.08bn (10.10% market share). According to visiongain’s research, therapeutic vaccines accounted for only $0.05bn in revenues (0.47% share of the total market).
