Momentive Specialty Chemicals and UPC Technology have signed a memorandum of understanding to create a joint venture company to produce speciality phenolic resins in China.
The joint venture is expected to build its phenolic resins plant in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, China, adjacent to an existing plant owned by UPC.
The new plant will produce a range of speciality novolac and resole phenolic resins used in applications including refractories, friction and abrasives.
Construction of the new plant is expected to start by late 2011 and complete by the end of 2012.
Momentive Speciality Chemicals vice-president and general manager Marcello Boldrini said the project will expand their capabilities in the region and enable them to meet growing demand from customers in China with locally manufactured solutions for their application needs.
