DHA has attracted more and more attention since it has been recommended by the World Health Organization in 1993. There are two kinds of DHA in China, microalgal DHA and fish oil DHA. In the past five years, the development of fish oil DHA has been relatively stable, while microalgal DHA has witnessed a rapid growth. In 2011, China's output of fish oil is estimated at about 11,800 tonnes and microalgal DHA's would reach about 560 tonnes.

However, fish supply for DHA production is limited and China’s production technology is inefficient. What will be the future development trend of the industry? What is the actual situation of Chinese producers? How about related laws and regulations promulgated by Chinese government?

The demand for DHA in China becomes icreasingly large, so does the market size. The demand mainly comes from health care products and formula foods, the total DHA consumption of which may account for about 90% of the total DHA consumption in China. These two industries have been developing quickly in the past five years. What is the real consumption situation of DHA in these industries? And what is the demand trend in China’s DHA market?

To figure out these questions, CCM International carries out a deep investigation into China’s DHA industry and the following issues will be included in this report.
  • Production situation (2009-2011)
  • Industry environment
  • Price change (2009-2011)
  • Related laws and regulations
  • Consumption volume evolution (2009-2011)
  • Consumption pattern (2010-2011)
  • Forecast on supply and demand (2012-2016)
