Propyne is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, chloroform and benzene. Its boiling point is -23.2 °C. This alkyne is flammable at room temperature. Propyne forms explosives mixtures with air and oxidizing agents. Propyne can be safely condensed. The gas is present in the atmosphere of outer planets.
Propyne is used for rocket fuel production. Besides, it is used in oxy-fuel welding and cutting torches.
Exposure routs to propyne are via inhalation, skin and/or eye contact. The compound poses several side effects on humans. Propyne causes frostbite injury, severe tissue burns, rapid breathing and rapid heart rate.
