Product Name:Propyne
CAS#:74-99-7
Formula:C3H4
Molecular Weight:40.06
Structure:Propyne (CAS 74-99-7)

Propyne belongs to the class of alkynes and is also called methylacetylene. Propyne is a colorless, non-toxic liquefied gas with a sweet smell and with the molecular formula C3H4.

Propyne is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, chloroform and benzene. Its boiling point is -23.2 °C. This alkyne is flammable at room temperature. Propyne forms explosives mixtures with air and oxidizing agents. Propyne can be safely condensed. The gas is present in the atmosphere of outer planets.

Propyne is used for rocket fuel production. Besides, it is used in oxy-fuel welding and cutting torches.

Exposure routs to propyne are via inhalation, skin and/or eye contact. The compound poses several side effects on humans. Propyne causes frostbite injury, severe tissue burns, rapid breathing and rapid heart rate. Headaches, dizziness, mood disturbances, numbness of the extremities, sleepiness, mental confusion, etc. are possible in acute cases.
