Polychloroprene is a speciality elastomer, produced by polymerization of chloroprene. It has the chemical formula C4H5Cl. Polychloroprene is insoluble in water and usually occurs as white/beige chunks, which have a slight characteristic odor. Polychloroprene is manufactured in four grades: normal linear (general-purpose grades), precrosslinked, sulfur-modified and slow crystallizing grades.

Polychloroprene is commercially known as neoprene. The major product application area is the rubber industry. Polychloroprene is used as a feedstock for the production of adhesives and coatings. The compound is either required in the automotive and construction industries. Given polychloroprene's resistance to sun, water and weather conditions, it acts as an excellent component of life jackets, professional diving suits, wet suits, gloves and many other home goods. Polychloroprene is also employed as a protective covering in wire and cable systems.

Western Europe calls for almost 30% share of the world polychloroprene output. The US and Japan represent top country markets for polychloroprene, together accounting for over 50% of the overall production volume. The global annual consumption of polychloroprene is estimated at nearly 300 thousand tonnes. The list of the top polychloroprene manufacturers includes but is not limited to LANXESS AG, DuPont, Tosoh Corporation, Abtonsmart Chemicals Co., Ltd., Showa Denko K.K., Denki Kagaku Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha and Shanxi Synthetic Rubber Group Co., Ltd.

The polychloroprene market is covered in the Polychloroprene (CAS 9010-98-4) Market Research Report 2023. The report encompasses proper description of the product, unveils application areas, and briefly summarizes patents in the sphere. It overlooks the polychloroprene market situation, names manufacturers, suppliers as well as users. The report also provides current polychloroprene prices.
