BMI View: The market is fluctuating, with the move towards more advanced services gathering pace. On the mobile side, saturation has occurred meaning that operators are looking to migrate users onto more advanced plans, such as LTE. The award of the 700MHz spectrum will help that strategy. On the fixed side, infrastructure investment is also needed, with the move towards convergence helping operators to grow their revenue per user. However, regulatory intervention in both markets, and the creation of wholesale fibre and LTE networks owned by the government, provide a downside risk to growth in the market.

Key Data
  • Mobile subscriptions only increased by 6,000 in Q215, meaning the loss of half a million subscriptions in the first half of the year. The number reached 61.516mn at the end of June 2015.
  • Fixed broadband connections reached 6.559mn at the end of June 2015, as convergence is allowed in the country
  • Telecom Argentina is looking to migrate more users onto advanced services, with 22% of its broadband subscribers in speeds above 10Mbps, and 3.1% (600,000) of its mobile base on LTE services
