BMI View: Mexican tourist arrivals will grow by 12.3% in 2016, reflecting stronger economic growth north of the border in the US and surging arrivals from Europe and Latin America. However, we caution that the outbreak of the Zika virus in late 2015 could have a negative effect on 2016 arrivals.

Key Updates And Forecasts
  • North American arrivals will grow by 13.3% in 2016, the highest growth rate of any region.
  • High arrivals growth of 8.6% and 10.8% from Latin America and Europe respectively will push overall arrivals growth to 37.9mn in 2016.
  • Industry value will decline by 6.5% in USD terms in 2016, to USD21.2bn, but we believe this to reflect currency fluctuations, given a forecast increase of 4.3% in MXN terms.
