BMI View: Mexico's tourism sector will grow by 4.6% in 2016, reflecting stronger economic growth north of the border in the US and steady arrivals from Europe. However, we caution that the outbreak of the Zika virus in late 2015 could have a deterrent effect on 2016 arrivals.

Key Updates And Forecasts
  • North American arrivals to Mexico will pick up to 5.29% in 2016, after previous estimates of a decline in 2016. This will have positive implications for overall arrivals, which we now forecast to grow by 4.6% in 2016, to 35.2mn.
  • We have revised down our forecast for hotels and restaurants industry value growth to 4.4%, from 9.3% previously, taking value to USD19.14bn in 2016.
