BMI View:Australia's tourism market is growing rapidly, supported by extensive government investment in transport and supporting infrastructure and a growing range of domestic and regional transport connections. We are forecasting substantial growth in the inbound tourism industry over our forecast period to 2019 as currency fluctuations make the country a more affordable regional travel destination. At the same time, Australia's relatively substantial outbound travel market is also set to expand, albeit at a slower rate than the smaller inbound travel sector.

Australia offers a broad range of tourist attractions. The country is renowned as a beach holiday destination, particularly along the Gold Coast, and also boasts world-class diving destinations including the Great Barrier Reef. There are also a multitude of adventure and sports activities on offer, including winter sports, which helps to negate the affect of seasonal slumps in tourism. Australia is also developing a reputation as a cultural holiday destination and is attracting greater volumes of short-stay visitors to its many cosmopolitan cities.
