This report shows inpatient diagnosis numbers of certain conditions originating in the perinatal period reported by all German hospitals between 2006 and 2014.

The data focuses on (1) fetus and newborn affected by maternal factors and by complications of pregnancy, labour and delivery: e.g. fetus and newborn affected by maternal complications of pregnancy, (2) disorders related to length of gestation and fetal growth: e.g. slow fetal growth and fetal malnutrition, (3) birth trauma: e.g. intracranial laceration and haemorrhage due to birth injury; birth injury to scalp; birth injury to skeleton, (4) respiratory and cardiovascular disorders specific to the perinatal period: e.g. intrauterine hypoxia; birth asphyxia; congenital pneumonia; pulmonary haemorrhage originating in the perinatal period, (5) infections specific to the perinatal period: e.g. congenital viral diseases; bacterial sepsis of newborn, (6) haemorrhagic and haematological disorders of fetus and newborn: e.g. fetal blood loss; intracranial nontraumatic haemorrhage of fetus and newborn; kernicterus, (7) transitory endocrine and metabolic disorders specific to fetus and newborn: e.g. transitory disorders of carbohydrate metabolism specific to fetus and newborn; transitory neonatal disorders of calcium and magnesium metabolism, (8) digestive system disorders of fetus and newborn: meconium ileus in cystic fibrosis; necrotizing enterocolitis of fetus and newborn, (9) conditions involving the integument and temperature regulation of fetus and newborn: hypothermia of newborn; other disturbances of temperature regulation of newborn and (10) other disorders originating in the perinatal period: e.g. convulsions of newborn; feeding problems of newborn; disorders of muscle tone of newborn.

Altogether data for over 370 specific diagnoses are presented.

Furthermore, the “Top 5 diagnostic hospitals” – those with the most diagnoses of certain conditions originating in the perinatal period – are identified.
