Thai Retail Packaging Market Trends

Thai retail packaging is primed to keep on showing high performance

Fast ageing population and a dwindling average family size in Thailand are leading to the advent of key consumer segments, thus driving consumer packaging trends. Through 2016-end, the Thai packaging industry is poised to expand at a brisk CAGR – just over 4.9%.

Plastic packaging will gain from big food export opportunities and demands for smaller packs

Within the overall packaging universe, the plastic packaging category represents the second biggest one, worth over USD 3.6 billion. The food and drinks, health & beauty care, and home care markets are the principal plastic packaging consumers in Thailand. As of 2011, the nation’s plastic packaging industry accounted for just over 35% of all plastic goods imported and 31% of the exported plastic products.

Metal packaging grabs the third largest share of the national packaging market. Its basic end-users are food and drinks (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic) markets.

The material was prepared in February, 2014.
