SUMMARY

Sabah Ports Authority (SPA) is undertaking the expansion of Sepanggar Port in Sabah, Malaysia.

The project involves the expansion of sea port on 242.8ha of land. It includes the construction of an administrative space, storage units, loading and unloading facilities and other related facilities.

The project will be developed in phases, the first phase involves the expansion of its berth length from the current 0.5km to 1.2km to accommodate cruise ships and the stacking area from 15ha to 60ha with the capacity to 1.25 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) from the current 500,000 TEUs.

In February 2016, the Government of Malaysia (GoM) approved US$191 million funds for the expansion.

Later in June 2016, GoM approved additional funds of US$82.25 million which raise the cost of the entire project.

The tender has been issued for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with the submission deadline of January 4, 2017.

Construction works are expected to commence in 2018 and complete by 2023.

The project involves the expansion of sea port on 242.8ha of land in Sabah, Malaysia.
