Key Highlights

Over the review period, the turnover of the French construction equipment market recorded a compounded annual rate of change (CARC) of -8.39%, primarily due to a steep decline in the revenue of French companies in 2009, which forced the growth rate of the otherwise expanding market to turn negative. In 2009, construction equipment turnover stood at US$1.9 billion, a figure which represented a decline of 46.2% in comparison with the value from the previous year. The decline was significant; as French construction companies such as Vinci, Bouygues and Eiffage, companies that dominate the European market faced the postponement or cancellation of orders. The effects of the decrease in demand in the end-user market were aggravated by the inventory reduction of dealers and hire companies’ resale of a major portion of equipment fleets. However, with the onset of economic recovery from the third quarter of 2009, the French construction equipment market is expected to improve throughout the forecast period. As a result, WMI expects the French construction equipment market to register a CAGR of 12.72% during the forecast period, and value US$3.7 billion in 2015.
