BMI View: Morocco's agriculture sector holds significant potential, particularly the dairy, poultry and sugar industries. The dairy sector benefits from growing interest from international dairy companies and is likely to enjoy strong growth in the coming years. Our optimism is bolstered by the government-initiated Green Morocco Plan, which is likely to see increased investment in an effort to reduce the industry's weather-related production risks out to 2020. We believe that the twin strategies of producing high-yield and market-related agriculture, as well as improving on its existing water conservation programme, will yield good results in the medium-to-long term, with a number of core sectors forecast to enjoy moderate growth through to the end of our forecast period in 2018/19.

Key Forecasts

Sugar production growth to 2018/19: 15.6% to 462,300 tonnes. Production growth is expected to benefit from recent moves to commercialise the industry and from investments aimed at improving farming methods.
