Executive summary

This is the 13th edition of this BSG report which is published semi-annually. The report tracks the financial performance of the top Asian B2B media companies that are publicly-listed or publish reliable financial figures. In the tables that comprise this report, BSG has published all available and relevant information. BSG will continue to update the profiles as more financial data is published.

The companies in this report operate on three different financial calendars ending on 31st March, 31st October or 31st December. As a result, revenues and gross profits of some companies are not as up-to-date as others.

In terms of revenues, Baidu holds the top ranking with revenues of US$3.6 billion. Hong Kong-listed Pico Far East is at second place generating revenues of US$498 million. If the business of Pico Thailand was also included, then as a group, Pico’s revenues were US$540 million.

Third place is held by UBM Asia with revenues of US$307 million and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, with revenues of US$232 million ranks fourth. NASDAQ-listed, Hong Kong-based, Global Sources ranks fifth with total revenues of US$232 million. Japanese media group, Impress Holdings is ranked sixth with revenues of US$116 million.

The rest of the revenue table is dominated by small companies. Nine of the 19 companies posted revenues of less than US$30 million and of those, six have revenues of less than US$20 million.

Baidu and UBM Asia, amongst the larger companies in this report (by revenue), booked the strongest performances. Baidu’s revenues increased by about 54% and UBM Asia recorded a 13% increase. Of the companies with revenues in excess of US$100 million, only Tokyo-based Impress Holdings recorded a drop in revenues, down 1.6%
