Company background

This is an updated edition of a previous profile which was published in June 2012.

UBM Asia , owned by U.K.-based UBM plc, is one of the largest commercial exhibition organisers in Asia. Formed through a series of acquisitions made in the region since 1994, the businesses which make up UBM Asia have a track record of more than 30 years primarily as trade fair organisers. UBM Asia also publishes 27 trade publications and operates 17 websites which support the publications and the exhibitions business.

Approximately, 90% of UBM Asia’s revenues are generated from its exhibitions business. UBM Asia organises about 200 exhibitions and conferences each year. Events are held in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam in Asia as well as in cities in Brazil and Turkey.

In terms of net exhibition size, UBM Asia’s largest exhibitions are Furniture China (more than 160,000 m2) and the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (nearly 70,000 m2). BSG estimates that more than half of revenues are generated from UBM Asia’s businesses in China and Hong Kong.

UBM Asia’s headquarters is in Hong Kong and UBM Asia maintains 30 offices in 25 cities around the world with staff of over 1,200. Offices are located in Hong Kong, China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Shenzhen), India (Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Turkey and the U.S.

UBM Asia’s events business is strong in the following industries: fashion and jewellery, lifestyle, food ingredients and technology. As a percentage of revenues, the largest segment is fashion & jewellery followed by lifestyle. UBM Asia’s publications cover similar industries. Jewellery and beauty & health feature the most titles. UBM Asia operates B2B websites covering jewellery, leather, furniture, hospitality and pharmaceutical ingredients
