Company background
This is an updated edition of the original report which was published in April 2012.
CyberMedia is a company in turmoil. Established in 1982, CyberMedia describes itself as South Asia’s largest specialty media house, but in the past 2-3 years, revenues have fallen from approximately US$20 million to US$13 million. CyberMedia’s key remaining businesses are print publications, websites and market research.
CyberMedia’s publications include Dataquest, DQ Channels, The DQ Week (Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata), Global Services, MIT’s Technology Review, PCQuest and Voice&Data. The group has 10 websites led by www.ciol.com, which claims to be India’s largest technology website.
CyberMedia’s media services division offers market research. The most significant of these was the market research operations which were founded on CyberMedia’s relationship with the IT and telecom research company, IDC. That relationship was terminated in 2011. Since then the company has begun to offer its own market research services.
The Media Services include CMR India, a regional leading IT and telecom research company; CyberMedia Services offering its outsourcing services; and GrowthInk Services, its market research and consulting service.
Financially, CyberMedia continues to struggle as revenues decline. For the year ended 31st March 2013, CyberMedia’s revenues were down 5.5% to US$13 million. The company posted a net loss of US$326,000 in the year, compared to a profit of US$28,000 recorded in the previous year. CyberMedia’s media business generated revenues of US$7.7 million or about 58% of total revenues, an 11% year-on-year decrease. The remaining revenues were attributed to the company’s media services business which posted a 1.8% increase to US$5.7 million.
