Report Sample Abstract:

As glass is fragile, it has a certain sales radius, usually 500-600 km in China. The cost of flat glass is sensitive to the raw material cost but not to the labor cost. As the upstream raw materials of glass are broadly distributed and the processing techniques are not complicated, their prices are relatively stable. The transportation cost of transportation occupies 10%-15% in the cost of flat glass. During the production, major factors affecting the cost of auto glass are soda ash, heavy oil, PVB film, ink, etc. The cost of soda ash, heavy oil and PVB film accounts for 15%, over 10% and over 30% of the cost of auto glass separately.

The upstream raw materials of PVB also contain crude oil and the transportation cost is related to crude oil. Therefore, the price of crude oil is positively correlated with the price of auto glass.

After the outbreak of the global financial crisis, Chinese flat glass price underwent sharp drop and then recovery. Since the beginning of 2010, due to the increase in the raw material cost, the price of flat glass on Chinese market rises continuously. It is predicted that this will restrain Chinese auto glass supply to some extent.

From the end of 2009 to the beginning of 2010, Fuyao Group and Taiwan Glass Industry Group, etc. declared plans of constructing new auto glass projects or expanding the auto glass production capacities in China. These projects will be finished during the end of 2010 to 2012. It is forecast that the production capacity of Chinese auto glass industry will continue to increase rapidly in 2010-2012.

In 2010, Chinese auto glass production is predicted to exceed 90 million m2, rising by over 15% YOY. The annual growth rate of Chinese auto glass production is expected to maintain over 15% in 2011-2014.
