Turkish Travel & Tourism Market Explored & Forecast in Research Report by Travel & Tourism Intelligence Center Available at MarketPublishers.com09 Feb 2015 • by Natalie Aster
LONDON – The travel and tourism market in Turkey showed positive performance from 2010 to 2014, and is expected to grow through 2019, spurred mainly by the growing air traffic and increasing business tourism. In addition, the Turkish government takes various initiatives in attempts to promote tourism in the country and to encourage people to visit Turkey. Furthermore, the financial downturn in Europe and tough political environment in the Middle East and North Africa had a positive impact on the market, as Turkey became an alternative destination to such countries as Egypt and Greece.
As of 2014, the overall domestic tourism expenditure reached USD 12.7 billion, showing a CAGR of 11.47% between 2010 and 2014. This growth is attributed to the rising average household incomes along with the depreciation of Turkish lira. Meantime, foreign tourist inflow achieved 35 million in 2014, an 8 million upturn from 2010. The international tourist expenditures totaled USD 35 billion, rising at a CAGR of 17.17% since 2010. The growth of both international arrivals and tourist expenditures is attributed to the increasing business-related tourism and governmental initiatives. Whilst the inflow of foreign tourists is rising in Turkey, the statistics proves that Turkish residents prefer to travel inside the country. Thus, the domestic trips amounted to 72.6 million in 2014, while the outbound tourism totaled just 9.0 million. Still, the outbound tourism has been rising since 2010 at a CAGR of 6.76%.
