LONDON – The accident on Fukushima nuclear power plant has made Tocalo come up with a new solution for treatment of contaminated materials. All the contaminated waste, water, metals and other are transported in special containers, and Tocalo aims to improve their durability and radiation shielding properties. There is also need to improve performance of storage containers where contaminated materials are kept.

So Tocalo came up with a new steel and concrete surface treatment, a film that blocks radiation from penetration and also improves corrosion resistance of the container. This new protective film is environmentally-friendly and does no harm to human health.

Tocalo has successfully coped with the stressed business environment of 2011. Its annual results for the year ended March 2012 reflect mild change from previous numbers: revenue went up 4% to JPY 22 B, gross profit added 2.5% and reached JPY 7.3 B, operating income lost 7% and equaled JPY 3.3 B, net income declined by 9% and amounted to JPY 2 B. the results for the quarter ended June 2012 reveal some improvement: revenue of JPY 5.5 B, gross profit of JPY 1.8 B, operating income of JPY 832.1 M, net income of JPY 517.2 M. Thermal spray processing was the main revenue contributor during the period with 76.5% share in the total amount.
