Lonza Group AG Cooperates With Avalanche Biotechnologies According to BAC Company Report

LONDON – Earlier in May Lonza Group and Avalanche Biotechnologies announced their manufacturing collaboration Adeno-associated Viral Vectors for Gene Therapy. The cooperation will benefit Avalanche’s production technology and allow Lonza distribute the clinical program through its third parties. The revenue from sales of AAV vectors will be shared between the collaborators. This strategic cooperation is aimed at large-scale manufacturing and wide distribution of AAV vectors named as very promising gene delivery agents in the treatment of different diseases.
Lonza Group operates in a mature market and therefore occupies a particular place on it. It is difficult for the company to deliver robust performance, enjoying rocketing sales on its products. Last FY results reflect a slowdown in Lonza incomes: revenue increased by only 0.4% to CHF 2.7 B, gross profit declined by 1.5% to CHF 700 M, operating income lost 30.2% and equaled CHF 261 M, and net income dropped to CHF 154 M which is a 47.1% decline. The company, however, seeks for ways out this unfavorable situation, and in 2011 it acquired Arch Chemicals, which made Lonza world leader in microbial control.
