Although the Apple TV does not have an “i” in front of its name, it is also part of the Apple ecosystem. If you want to know whether your favourite movie or TV show is available on Apple TV, all you have to do is to look up on iTunes. You can purchase a movie or TV show from any of the Apple devices; Apple stores it in iCloud and is available to you in all your Apple devices - iPad, iPod and Apple TV included.

The new report “Apple TV vs. Google TV” by Mind Commerce Publishing evaluates Google vs. Apple TV and analyzes other companies in the space. It reviews solutions, technologies, and applications; as well as provides a comparative analysis of offerings including Business, Sports, and Music.

Google does not have dedicated distribution network a la iTunes. They depend on content from partners like Netflix, Amazon video on demand, HBO Go. You are right to think that since there is a full blown Chrome browser available in Google TV, it should be possible to watch content from, etc. Unfortunately, most of such content is blocked by the networks when they find that you are trying to access them through the Google TV.

There are some of the video content providers on the two boxes. Note that Google TV’s list will keep changing as they can be added by third party providers like Android market. Apple TV does not allow third party to add their own apps.
