Juice Market in Russia and Development Forecast for 2011-2014

Reduction in income and significant increase of consumer prices in 2010 drove demand for cheaper juices and nectars. To prevent the risk of competition from illegal producers and private brands of affiliated retailers, large-scale businesses were forced to produce more low-price juices. As a result, at year-end 2010 producers’ price declined by 4%.

In 2010 there was an increase in juice production in comparison with 2009. More than 60% of juice was produced in Central Federal District. Moscow region came first in terms of volume of output. Key large-scale producers such as Wimm Bill Dan, Multon, Nidan-Gross etc. are located in the region.

Juice market in Russia is extremely concentrated. Top ten manufactures produce nearly 80% of locally produced drinks.

While the majority of market volume is dominated by the category “other fruit, vegetable and multifruit juices” (peach juice, citrus juice except orange and grapefruit juice), apple juice was ranked at the second position. Grape juice had the smallest market share.

The import share at the juice market is more than 17% in terms of quantity.  Share of exports in production volume is a little more than 1%.

According to Express-Obzor’s forecast, in 2011 the growth of juice market in Russia by 5% is expected as a result of the increase in demand.
