The water resources of China are affected by pollution, contamination and regional scarcity. Water resources management is fragmented among various agencies and levels of government.

The Chinese water crisis threatens the stability and prosperity not only in People's Republic of China but globally too, according to John McAlister from the film Aquabiotronics. According to the World Bank forecast, Mainland China has only a per-capita share of 2700 cubic meters per annum, one quarter of the world's average. Half of China's 617 largest cities face water deficits. Beijing is among the cities which will be most affected. Northern China is now relying on underground water that was formed 10,000 years ago to meet the demand of China's large population, which has resulted in ground cracking and subsidence in some regions.

Aruvian Research presents a research report on the water utilities in China – Analyzing the Water Utilities in China. Faced with a water crisis, China is looking to develop the water utilities industry. This research report focuses on China’s water crisis, water resources available in China, the water demand and supply scenario, contamination of water resources in the country, and the management of water utilities by the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources.

The report also analyzes the water supply and sanitation system in China and the regulatory framework governing this industry. The lack of investment in wastewater treatment facilities and the investment in the overall water utilities industry in the country is also analyzed. A statistical examination has been undertaken of market statistics, value and volume data of the industry, industry segmentation and an outlook of the Chinese water utilities industry, and close inference has been drawn from the same.

Rapid urbanization and the problems created by this and the diversity of urbanization in the country is analyzed in the section looking at the major challenges facing the water utilities industry in China. The challenge of water scarcity – a major issue facing many countries these days – is also touched upon. Issues with drainage collection networks and the huge problem of disposing off of industrial wastewater is further discussed.

Major industry players such as Nanhai Development, Qian Jiang Water Resources Development, Shanghai Municipal Raw Water, and the Wuhan Sanzhen Industry Holding are analyzed in this extensive research report by Aruvian Research.
