Introduction

M86 Secure Web Gateway (SWG) provides an appliance and hybrid web security solution that allows organizations and their users to remain safe from web-borne malware. In Ovum's opinion, the scope, intensity, and serious nature of web threats make it necessary for all organizations to deploy a secure set of web protection facilities.

Features and benefits
  • M86 SWG offers real-time behavior analysis and does not depend solely on signature-based protection.
  • Dynamic Web Repair filters out malware from infected websites while still serving up the requested web page.
  • The product uses real-time code inspection technology on outbound as well as inbound traffic.
Highlights

The latest release of M86 Secure Web Gateway (SWG (release 10.0)), addresses the key components of web gateway protection and the wider requirement to include social media controls. A key strength of the product that Ovum recognizes as unique is its ability to make real-time decisions about the state of websites that are approved for access.M86 SWG appliances make use of patented real-time code inspection and behavior analysis technology, and do not have to rely solely on signatures. They inspect outbound as well as inbound communications that are delivered over file transfer protocol (FTP), hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), and secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS).

Your key questions answered
  • The entry-level version of M86 SWG is recommended for operations of around 1,000 seats. It is not a product that targets the small business market.
