Abstract:
This method uses a probe with a balloon attached to the end that is inserted into the endometrial cavity and expanded with a sterile fluid until it fits the size and shape of the uterus. The fluid is then heated to 87 degrees Celsius and circulated around the balloon for eight minutes to destroy the endometrial lining. The lining then sheds off over 7 to 10 days, similar to menstruation. This procedure is a same-day surgical procedure and is done under local anesthetic.
