Reinsurance in the Czech Republic, Key Trends and Opportunities to 2016
Synopsis

The report provides top-level market analysis, information and insights into the Czech Republic reinsurance market, including:
  • The Czech Republic reinsurance market’s growth prospects by reinsurance categories
  • The Czech Republic reinsurance market’s growth prospects by reinsurance ceded from direct insurance segments
  • The competitive landscape in the Czech Republic reinsurance insurance market

Summary

The Czech reinsurance segment recorded strong growth during the review period (2007–2011), despite the adverse impact of the global economic crisis in 2008 and 2009. The Czech reinsurance segment grew in premium value at a CAGR of 9.1% during the review period. This increase was primarily due to significant growth recorded by the Czech Republic’s personal accident and health insurance segment and the increasing share of non-life insurer premium ceded to reinsurers. The Czech Republic suffered from the impact of a flood in 2002, which resulted in insured losses of around US$1.3 billion. Out of the US$1.3 million insurance losses, more than 95% were covered by the reinsurance segment. The reliance of non-life insurers on reinsurers for sharing risk has been high ever since.

  • The growth of the Czech reinsurance segment will be primarily due to the high number of natural disasters, such as windstorms and flooding, that occur in the Czech Republic
