Summary

During the review period, the Indonesian life insurance segment grew at a healthy rate. This growth was driven by the growing popularity of unit-linked insurance products, the country’s economic growth and favorable demographics. Despite this strong growth, the country has one of the most underdeveloped life insurance segments among south-east Asian economies, with the segment’s written premiums accounting for only XX% of Indonesia’s GDP in 2011, as compared to XXX% for Malaysia, XXX% for Singapore, and XX% for Thailand. This relatively low penetration is predominantly due to a lack of public interest in using such products as a means of risk management and investment.
