Noranda Aluminum Holding Corporation engages in the production and sale of primary aluminum products and rolled aluminum coils in the United States.

Segments

The company operates in two segments, Upstream and Downstream.

Upstream

The Upstream business produces primary aluminum in the United States. The company’s bauxite mining operation in Jamaica, St. Ann, provides a source of bauxite to its wholly owned alumina refinery in Gramercy, Louisiana, which is referred to as ‘Gramercy’. Gramercy provides a supply of alumina to its New Madrid smelter.

The company’s upstream business consists of its aluminum smelter near New Madrid, Missouri (New Madrid) and supporting operations at its vertically integrated bauxite mine and alumina refinery. New Madrid has annual production capacity of approximately 580 million pounds (263,000 metric tonnes). The upstream business is vertically integrated with operations in bauxite mining, alumina refining, and aluminum smelting.

The company’s Gramercy refinery has contracts with two local suppliers of natural gas, Coral Energy Resources, L.P. and Atmos Energy Marketing, LLC, which each expire on April 30, 2010.

Downstream

The Downstream business produces aluminum rolled products. The company owns and operates four rolling mills, including the West plant in Huntingdon, Tennessee, which is an advanced rolled aluminum production facility in North America. The company’s rolling mills are located in the southeastern United States, in Huntingdon, Tennessee; Salisbury, North Carolina; and Newport, Arkansas, with a combined maximum annual production capacity of 410 to 495 million pounds, depending on its production mix.

The company’s products include heavy gauge foil products, such as finstock and semi-rigid container stock, light gauge converter foils used for packaging applications, consumer foils and light gauge sheet products, such as transformer windings and building products. It primarily sells its products to original equipment manufacturers of air conditioners, transformers, semi-rigid containers, and foil packaging, majority of whom are located in the eastern and central part of the United States.
