Serbia Distribution of electricity Market Report
The companies, active on Serbia’s electricity market, are two large state-owned power companies – Javno Preduzece Elektroprivreda Srbije (JP EPS) and Javno Preduzece Elektromreza Srbije (JP EMS). JP EPS specialises in electricity generation and distribution and is Serbia’s Distribution System Operator (DSO), while JP EMS is engaged in the transmission of electricity and the management of the country's electricity market and is the national Transmission System and Market Operator (TSMO).
The activities of electricity distribution are carried out by five companies, which are fullyowned by JP EPS.
The electricity distribution system in Serbia comprises low-, medium-voltage and 110 kV networks, as well as telecommunications and information systems.
In line with the Energy Law, the entities, active in electricity distribution, committed to maintain and develop the distribution system under a five-year plan, approved by the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia (AERS), and according to the needs of the customers. The distributors of electricity are also involved in activities related to the management of the distribution network and the retail of electricity, excluding those performed by the DSO.
