Russia Construction Market Report
In the first quarter of 2009 Russia's GDP fell by 9.5% on the year as a result of the global economic turn-down. The country's GDP is expected to contract by 5.0% in 2009 due to lower commodity prices, restricted access to external financing and reduced external demand. In 2010 a recovery to 2.0% growth is expected.
Russia's GDP grew 5.6% on the year. In 2008 the country's construction market retained the positive development trend from 2007. Throughout the same period the Russian economy thrived on high energy prices and large capital inflows.
The rising prices of building materials, high taxes and fierce competition are the factors that hamper the most the development of the construction sector, according to company executives.
