Hungary Construction Market Report

In the first four months of 2008 the gross output of Hungary's construction sector fell by 14% on the year, as building construction and civil engineering works marked a decrease of 12% and 15% year-on-year, respectively.

Based on unadjusted data, in the first quarter of 2008, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) went up by 1.7% year-on-year, backed by the growth of the industrial and agricultural sectors. The number of building permits for the construction of dwellings issued in the first half of 2008 stood at 21,000, down 1.0% on the year. The number of the dwellings built in the first half of 2008 was 11,138, down 15% year-on-year. In the first five months of 2008 civil engineering output in Hungary dropped by 13.1% year-on-year.
